BETTING THE OSCARS ODDS: BEST PICKS FOR THE 2019 ACADEMY AWARDS

Last year’s Academy Awards, airing February 24 at 8:30 p.m. EST on ABC, have experienced a bumpy road, with declared (and retracted) class changes and an ultimately fruitless search for a host (the show will proceed without a bunch for the first time since 1989). However they stay the pop-culture betting opportunity of this year.
For the 91st Academy Awards, Las Vegas-based movie critic Josh Bell provides his insights into the best stakes in the significant classes and which movies should walk away with the awards–and the money.
BEST PICTURE
Roma 4/1
Green Book 6/1
The Favourite 15/2
BlacKkKlansman 15/2
Black Panther 15/2
A Star Is Born 8/1
Bohemian Rhapsody 19/2
Vice 19/2
What is going to Win: This season has been more volatile than most, with assorted controversies and disagreements surrounding a range of nominees, along with the ceremony itself. So it is tougher to pick on a clear Greatest Picture frontrunnerbased on momentum from prior awards. Roma may seem like the clear choice based on its BAFTAs and Critics’ Choice wins, but a film not from the English language hasn’t won Best Picture before, and veteran Academy members may nonetheless be resistant to awarding a Netflix generation. Green Book, with its typically Oscar-friendly story about overcoming cultural differences, inspired by true events, could most likely be the safest bet, though objections in the family of subject Don Shirley and disagreeable news stories about manager Peter Farrelly and co-writer Nick Vallelonga have tarnished its odds a little. Do not count out old-school Hollywood crowd-pleaser A Star Is Born or offbeat period play (always a favorite Academy genre) The Favourite, either.
What Should Grow: Although its LGBT-focused story, off-kilter design and quirky sense of humor might be a bit too much for Academy members, The Favourite is the very best and most imaginative of this year’s nominees, a brilliantly acted, darkly funny story about the intersection of sexual appetite and political power, far more incisive and enjoyable than the muddled Vice. It may be easier for novices to comprehend the person achievements than the film as a whole, but it’s more than deserving of this award.

Point/Counterpoint: Notre Dame vs Louisville – Free NCAAF Betting Picks

Notre Dame (9) vs Louisville
Monday, September 2 nd, 8:00 PM in Cardinal Stadium
Swinging Johnson: This week Doug Upstone and leave our college football selections on the Monday night game between the Louisville Cardinals and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and that I shall deviate to dip our toes.
It will probably be the very first and only time this year we do this, as the last week of exhibition NFL football is somewhat lackluster compared to a regular-season game of NCAA football comprising one of the top clubs in the country, plus a legendary soccer program to boot, Notre Dame.
Without further ado, let us begin the discussion after my buddy Doug Upstone got the better of me last week with a bet about the Steelers while I supported the Titans. We have been swapping wins back and forth so it looks like its my turn for the golden wreath, as I heartily endorse the Irish and will accompany the squares laying the lumber that is heavy onto a public road favorite.
After reviewing the school football odds nearly six days prior to the Monday night affair, I see the line has spiked a half-point about the favorite, opening at Notre Dame -19 1/2 to where its presently offered in a solid -20 round the board at all of the best internet sportsbooks.
I enjoy the Irish but you are leaning on the Cardinals within this clash. Other than the venue, why is it that you believe Louisville could hang with the boys out of South Bend?
Doug Upstone: YesSwinger, and a convincing win IMO, it said a lot about the Steelers and Titans direction. Let us move ahead to real football, in which the games rely and will our records with this one.
Remember those Thursday night games Louisville used to perform against opponents that are big-name? They held their engineered and own upsets. These were fun games to watch and the Cardinals were a thrilling club.
But for example the former Papa Johns Stadium and its fake (in real life) owner, Louisville soccer last season was worse than the usual three-day-old pizza.
Scott Satterfield worked wonders and are out to alter the culture and win matches. This wont happen right away as the talent level is down from theVille. This is a big moment for Louisville, a group that has the chance to begin taking steps.
I have read where the Cards coaches have sped up the slow mechanisms of QB Jawon Pass (great name for a QB) and I enjoy Hassan Hall because the direct running back. The defense which makes me more worried than having a ticket for the Colts at OVER 9 for season wins. Why you have up your Irish please do tell.
Swinging Johnson: The Cardinals will not be doing since the Notre Dame defense will keep them snug in their nest flying into this match. Scott Satterfield is presently in the big leagues and hes got a group last year, where they went winless coming from a dismal album. This rebuild is akin to attempting to turn it and carrying a hot air balloon.
While that may eventually occur, the issue is that Louisville is confronting a team which made it to the CFP last year and owned one of the stingiest defenses in all of college football, devoting only 17.2 points over the normal season and moving a perfect 12-0 until they met Clemson from the CFP semifinals. The Irish offense clicked on all cylinders as well, averaging 33 points per match over.
So, my issue is, just how will be a quarterback like Pass whos slow to release, designed to get any traction against a defense? Especially when he is working with an offensive scheme that is entirely new and a coach?
Please, Doug, save me Im lost! I find no way, shape or form where Louisville will have the ability to keep pace and I am desperate to your ancestral wisdom and prodigious handicapping expertise!
Doug Upstone: Well, Swinger, I am happy to read in your last sentence youre coming over to the sunny side of sports gambling, or you are simply being the exact identical shrewd a** you usually are. I will let the SBR readers that are making school football selections decide on that. Im the first to realize Louisville sucked and wasnt only 2-10, however, 1-11 ATS final season.
Like he gave up around the Atlanta Falcons but coach Bobby Petrino was given up on by that team COMPLETELY. A coach brings a fresh mindset and his team will be sold by Satterfield on making a statement with this being a game. Louisville does have to trust never and they will not be taken by the Irish for granted have a lot of fight.
Lets also consider, Brian Kelly using gold and the blue is ATS as a road favorite, also a mere 7-9-1 ATS, when dishing out 20 or more specimens. This defense you mentioned might grow as the season advances but substituting five starters, even whenever you dont/can not amuse like Bama or even Clemson, it will take time.
Swinging Johnson: Well Doug, I was being a bit facetious because though youve got an handicapping that was impressive restart, then you miss the mark from time to time. And in this situation, because Louisville might be greater but I would submit that they could be trained by a Rhesus monkey and improve upon their document rendered by an trainer such as Petrino, you happen to be shooting blanks.
I know that laying nearly 3 touchdowns on the street is square biz for sure and Joe Q. Public never got rich by gambling the heavy road chalk, but sometimes the general public is correct, and in this instance they surely are. Until next week when we get back on our NFL Game of the Week, let us see what happens on Monday when the Irish come prepared to squint at Louisville.
Free College Football Pick: Swinging Johnson — Notre Dame -20 (-110)
Free College Football Pick: Doug Upstone — Louisville +20 (-110)

Dame Laura Davies makes her Solheim Cup come back in a backroom role at Gleneagles, eight years from getting the most prosperous player in the championship’s history.
Davies represented Team Europe in the first 12 editions of this event, finishing on the side that was winning four times, with all the Englishwoman signing her off Solheim Cup career that was acting in style throughout the 2011 tournament.
The important champion of the four-time women arrived at Killeen Castle since player to tee it up for Europe, after overtaken by Catriona Matthew, with Davies having a stage to replace Annika Sorenstam because the all-time album scorer of Europe.
But better fortunes were to emerge, where they had been conquered by Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer on the green rookie Mel Reid was partnered by davies from the Friday fourballs.
Even the duo joined forces again to despatch Michelle Wie along with Brittany Lang 4and 3 in the Saturday afternoon session, moving Davies before Sorenstam’s record of 24 points.

Jamie Murray on US Open mixed doubles final, Bethanie Mattek-Sands & signing Daniel James

We and our partners use technologies, such as cookies, and gather surfing data to personalise the information and advertisements and to supply you with the best internet experience.
Please let us know whether you agree.
In his most recent BBC Sport column, Jamie Murray discusses his forthcoming US Open mixed doubles final and playing Premier League fantasy soccer helps pass time at tournaments.
The US Open was a championship for me in the past few years and I’m hoping I will win another trophy once I play on Saturday Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the mixed doubles final.
Bethanie and I won the competition here last year, which meant after winning it together with Martina Hingis 2 years 25, I defended the title.
After we reached the final in 2015 as well I also won the men’s doubles.
So I’ve had some success here and signifies I’m looking to acquire a trophy when Bethanie and that I play with with Chan Hao-ching and Michael Venus, that are the seeds, in the mixed final.
I like the conditions it suits my game and I’ve had some great partners along the way.
I like playing in North America – I like the tournaments, I like the terms, I like the audiences – so I feel Once I come to New York to the last Slam of the season as if I’m constantly in great shape.
I struggled somewhat in the first 3 tournaments of this North American swing – and in Washington, Montreal Cincinnati – largely because we played with unique balls.
They were a great deal heavier than what we play with, which caught me and I struggled a little bit rather than feeling great in my game.
But I went to Winston Salem in which they began to feel better and perform with the exact chunks as here.
Though we lost a tight semi-final against Colombian high seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal along with Robert Farah neal Skupski and that I had a great tournament there.
We played with beat some good teams on the way and five great matches to get there.
It was frustrating to drop in this significant match with fine margins and miss out playing at our initial tour-level closing collectively, especially because there were no breaks of serve and very few split points, but there are a good deal of benefits to take within our partnership from the championship as a whole.
There’s been lots of fantastic tennis approximately, with both Neal and Bethanie, so today it would be wonderful to complete the Grand Slam year with a different trophy.
Bethanie is fun to play with and we’ve got a wonderful chemistry on courtroom. She’s a player, has a great deal of abilities and is quite creative, and she is feisty, gets stuck in and doesn’t return.
We also have the benefit of the being a house player, in New York, therefore we’ve had excellent support in the.
She is a remarkably popular player, which you’ll be able to see with folks wanting to speak with her and possess selfies when she is walking around the site’s amount, and she has a fantastic following.
It creates a good atmosphere when we play on a different huge courtroom in the closing, in the court, which should be again.
When you are doing in the combined and both the men’s, it can be tough to juggle them – although it’s a terrific problem to have!
The program can make it frustrating because there have been a few times where I’ve played men’s and then I’m waiting five or four hours to play blended. It is just dead time.
You’re hanging around waiting to play, needing to get on court and you end up regaining energy.
It is not simple, as you know compete and you have got to go, and understand you’ve got to come back and perform. It plays on your mind a little.
You just need to wait, you are attempting to kill a while. There is nothing to do that’s kind of ordinary.
One thing which keeps me amused is fantasy football and because there is a lot of dead time there is not any justification for team choice deadlines and transfer.
However, this week is the break, therefore I’ve had nothing to do. When there are not any Premier League fixtures in the weekend, it is always disappointing.
There are 20 of us across two groups in our game, I am in the bottom branch and my brother Andy is in the branch.
It tennis and friends people close to us in our group, our father is from the league also, a couple guys that work with Andy, Colin Fleming. It’s great pleasure.
I’m a Manchester United fan, and so I signed Daniel James last weekend – he has been scoring a couple – and that I also have Marcus Rashford.
We do a very draft auction so that I was ninth out of 10 picks, therefore I could not purchase a Mohamed Salah or a Harry Kane or one of the top guys .
I put a lot of focus on trying to find sheets using groups that are random, but I wouldn’t say I am fantastic.
So I haven’t been faithful to picking their players united have not been doing lately – there is a lot at stake.
We don’t have a prize at the season’s end, it’s only bragging rights – .

Record-breaking perfect bracket busts at game 50 with Purdue’s OT win over Tennessee

After 50 matches of this 2019 NCAA tournament, the streak is over. There aren’t any longer perfect brackets.
The temporarily famous”centre road” bracket, which had accurately predicted the first 49 games of March Madness, suffered its first loss in the next match of the Sweet 16 when 3-seed Purdue conquer 2-seed Tennessee in overtime.
The bracket was entered within our Capital One NCAA March Madness Bracket Challenge game by 40-year-old neuropsychologist Gregg Nigl, that wasn’t even aware of the record-breaking streak until NCAA.com called him Monday, after the next round of this tournament.
Have a look at our interview with Nigl here.
Before this year, the longest we’d ever seen a mount go unblemished was 39 straight games, which occurred in 2017 (we describe why we’re so sure of the amount below). Nigl’s”center road” bracket smashed that listing.
