The Braves’ bullpen prefer to make things interesting and that was yet again the situation Wednesday night. After establishing a 6-2 lead at the 7th inning, the Braves nearly blew another lead in the 9th. It was just on Saturday the Braves were winners after moving to the bottom of the 9th with a 6-2 lead. This time, however, that the Braves were able to continue and protected a 6-4 win.
It was not easy and Mark Melancon made things tense with all the bases loaded and just 1 out. Despite getting in to difficulty, Brian Snitker stuck with Melancon and that he managed to escape the jam. Melancon is now recorded as the Braves’ closer following rookie Shane Greene botched his chances. But if Melancon proceeds to load up the bases such as that, afterward Greene is going to have another opportunity to seize the moment.
When the Braves need to have success at the postseason, there is not much secret seeing what has to change. From the looks of it, they’re likely going to be relying heavily on regular date starters out of the bullpen who didn’t make the postseason rotation. As they hold on a 6-game lead in the branch, the NL East crown is within reach. Washington are playing well lately, so they’ve managed to hold their own, but trading wins isn’t likely to assist with respect into the NL East.
The Nats are also fighting to get a wildcard, which they’re currently in possession of. Thursday is shaping up to be a nice starting pitching matchup involving Marcus Stroman and Julio Teheran. The Mets will probably be looking for much more from Marcus Stroman down the stretch. He hasn’t helped much thus far and has not produced the Mets seem overly bright moving after him.
