Gareth Bale needs help from Wales team-mates, says Tom Lawrence
Gareth Bale wants his Wales team-mates to”chip in and help the group”, based on forward Tom Lawrence.
Following several months of uncertainty over his potential, Bale ended a drought stretching back to March 16 with a brace in the 2-2 La Liga of Real Madrid draw on Sunday, even though Wales’ talisman was sent off in stoppage time.
The 30-year-old will place his team obligations because he looks to guide Wales however, they are just three adrift in the race to get a spot of both Slovakia and Croatia and route leaders Hungary by six factors at Group E.
Ryan Giggs has been encouraged by the fact that Bale, Daniel James and Harry Wilson all have been one of the targets at club level this season and Lawrence believes his team-mates will need to be supportive of Bale on the global stage.
Lawrence explained:”We can’t abandon it down to Gareth himself, other gamers have got to chip in and help the group.
“There is some of us pushing for a start on Friday and we’ll all be looking forward to getting around the pitch.
“When he (Bale) is playing he’s one of the world’s greatest. Is a bonus.
“It always helps when you’re playing games. When you are not match-fit it’s not simple to come play games”
Lawrence has extra motivation because he missed out in Euro 2016 when Wales attained the and qualified for their first tournament to reach the next year’s contest.
The 25-year-old tore ligaments having been part of this pre-tournament coaching squad in Portugal.
He said:”It was a tough time. You’re excited about going to the Euros and therefore to be stopped by an injury is not good.
“I would like to play at a major tournament. It was my biggest learning curve in overlooking the Euros and dealing with that.
“Since then I have come on a long way. It’d be great to have in there again.”
Wales face Azerbaijan within their second Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday prior to a friendly against Belarus in Cardiff three days later, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
