England right to include Mako Vunipola in World Cup squad, says Will Greenwood
England head coach Eddie Jones was correct to include injured prop Mako Vunipola within his World Cup squad, according to Will Greenwood.
Vunipola suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury during last month’s 57-15 triumph over Ireland, while Jack Nowell required emergency surgery to remove his appendix during a training camp in Italy.
In England’s 31-man squad for the tournament center, the set were both included despite their lack of fitness and Greenwood insists they deserved to travel to Japan.
“There are certain players that you have only got to go’get on the plane’ whether you’ve obtained a knock or never,” Greenwood told Sky Sports News.
“Very rarely following four warm-up games thus close to a World Cup are you going to get all 31 players 100 percent match prepared to compete.
“You don’t need to exclude someone from the chance of moving because of a slight hamstring niggle.”
England’s build-up to the World Cup contained matches against Wales, Ireland and Italy and Greenwood is confident those Exam matches will probably have provided sufficient preparation for the tournament.
“Should you move and possess Test matches against New Zealand and South Africa you could wind up with ten guys in Japan with injuries,” said Greenwood.
“So there’s always got to be a balance involving a thorough physical and mental test but in exactly the identical time you do not want to forfeit any gamers on the altar of 1 percent,” he explained.

Danny Care was not chosen despite being fit, with New Zealand-born Willi Heinz.

Greenwood understands why Care feels aggrieved but considers Jones must choose the most powerful squad potential.
“Folks will say well’can it be rewarding English gift?’ However Eddie Jones’s job is to win the World Cup not automatically foster English ability,” he explained.
“I think they’ve made big strides in extending it [residency] to five years. I really don’t think that it’s daft for this individual to be allowed to reflect that country.”
